Will the real Z-Risen 3 cover please stand up?

Howdy friends.

Yesterday I posted a fake Z-Risen 3 cover as an April Fool’s Day gag. Thanks to everyone who played along.

Today I bring you the actual Z-Risen 3: Poisoned Earth cover. The artwork was done by Eloise J. Knapp who is certainly no stranger to the post-apocalyptic genre. I am extremely pleased with her work on the new cover.

The book is nearing completion. I’m lining up my editor and beta readers. I’m doing my best to get this book out by the end of May so that means less than 2 months. In case you haven’t read the first two books, Z-Risen: Outbreak and Z-Risen 2: Outcasts are both $2.99 for the month of April.

Thank you all for your patience. The last 9 months have brought some dramatic changes to my personal life and I ended up sort of falling off the writing wagon. I’m back on track and have a lot of new projects lined up for 2015. I’ll get Z-Risen 3 setup for pre-order. As a thank you to all of my amazing readers, I will price the new book at .99 until the book is released.

Z-Risen 3 cover!

”The best part about this book is that it ends!” – Mark Tufo, author of the Zombie Fallout series and a whole bunch of other books

The cover for Z-Risen 3 is finally here and you know what that means, the book is nearing completion. I want to thank everyone for their patience while I finished the book. Hopefully the below synopsis gives you some idea of the action and excitement to come.

Jackson Creed and Joel “Cruze” Kelly have faced zombies, rogue military, and a strange creatures called Shufflers. They have relied on military training, guts, and sheer force of will to survive. Now they will face their greatest challenge yet.

Driven towards Los Angeles and harried at every turn, our heroes find themselves pursued by a band of literary Jihadists hell bent on destroying the entire zombie genre at any cost. Forced to write his daily journal on toilet paper, Creed finds himself at wits end as he attempts to bash in heads while keeping his toilet paper book free of blood and guts.

Guns, one-liners, more guns, action, and even more guns, our heroes may have met their match in the third penultimate volume. Z-Risen 3 returns readers to the beloved world created by Timothy W. Long with verve, wit, humor, satire, and other stupid words that sound vaguely cool.

“The Walking Dead meets Sex in the City. One of the best books I’ve read in the last two days.” – Darren Wearmouth, author of First Activation and a bunch of other books.

Your Publisher Isn’t Going To Make You A Rockstar

I’ve heard this too many times. “My publisher doesn’t give me enough promotion and my books don’t sell!”

Wah.

I’m going to tell you a hard truth. Sit down, grab a cold one, or a lollipop, and listen. Your publisher is not responsible for making you a rock star.

Now before you throw things at the screen and cursing my name, hear me out.

Waterstones-book-promotio-001Your book publisher is in the business of making money. They do that by taking a chance on an author and signing them to a book deal. The author gets an advance (hopefully!) and then they turn in a shiny manuscript, get it hacked to pieces by an editor, cry for a few hours, author-up, and fix their book. Continue reading…

Drafts: Everything you ever needed to know about writing the “puke-draft”

first draftEvery writer sits down, pours their heart onto the page, bleeds for their words, and then offers them to their readership. This is nothing new. What may surprise you is the amount of work that goes into refining those words. When I was a kid, I used to think that writers like Stephen King plopped down for a few months, spewed a book onto the word processor, and then sent the unedited manuscript to someone else to edit and publish while he rolled around on a mattress covered in hundred dollar bills and gold nuggets.

But that’s not even close to how it works. Any writer worth his or her salt wouldn’t send a first draft to their worst enemy. Writers, for the most part, take a lot of pride in what they do with the craft. Sure, there’s that piece of shit book on Amazon, you’ve seen it; this thing was written like a high school project and should have been burned. But it’s out there complete with a cover created in MS Paint and a review from the author’s mother. Continue reading…
