Impact Earth: Symbiosis is out now

After 3 1/2 years IMPACT EARTH: SYMBIOSIS is finally available. During the first week of release it is only $2.99 for kindle. It’s also in the kindle unlimited library so you can read it as part of your subscription. The paperback will be ready in a few weeks.

Here’s the synopsis:

“It was a quiet Seattle morning until the skies filled with fire: without warning, a catastrophic meteor shower caused buildings to crumble and the lights to go out. Out of the rubble, five ordinary people arose to find themselves manifesting undreamed-of abilities.

Will they be enough to do what the military cannot — stop a massive alien invasion before the entire West Coast is destroyed?”

I started working on this book in mid 2013. I was attending Texas Frightmare (best horror con in the world) with some other Permuted Press authors. Peter Cline’s Ex-Heroes books were taking off big time. I remember chatting with Peter and saying something along the lines of “There are a ton of zombie books. I think you’re really paving the way with superhero books. It’s going to be a huge book genre.” A few days later I had an idea for Impact Earth and started writing it.

Speaking of Peter Clines, check out the guest blog post he wrote for sfsignal.com about super people vs. superheroes.

Now, about Impact Earth. My idea for the book revolved around ordinary people who suddenly manifested super powers. What would happen if regular Joes without an agenda were suddenly able to do amazing things? Would the turn into good people? Would they use their powers for good? And how would they react to an alien invasion?

Over the years the book has changed and gone through at least 6 rewrites. During that time I’ve published 5 other novels, but Impact Earth was always in the back of my mind, and I worked on it when I could squeeze in the time.

One of the biggest fears about writing a book like this is in finding the audience. I write primarily post-apocalyptic zombie novels. While IMPACT EARTH doesn’t have any zombies it still has (in my opinion) interesting characters with depth, there is a little bit of humor, and there is a whole lot of destruction and action. If I had to compare this to any of my other books I’d say it most closely resembles my first book: AMONG THE LIVING.

I sincerely hope my readers will take a chance on this book. It’s been a labor of love and I hope that you all enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it.

My next book will be Z-RISEN 5: BARRIERS and it should be out before the summer of 2016.
