Beyond the Barriers: Ghouls has been released

I’m happy to post that the long awaited sequel to Beyond the Barriers is now out on Amazon. This is a kindle only novella that brings Erik Tragger into the Z-RISEN world. This is not a full novel, instead it is about 150 pages long. I’ve included a free copy of Z-RISEN: OUTBREAK with the release.

You can pick it up now on Amazon. I hope you enjoy the book!

Impact Earth: Symbiosis is out now

After 3 1/2 years IMPACT EARTH: SYMBIOSIS is finally available. During the first week of release it is only $2.99 for kindle. It’s also in the kindle unlimited library so you can read it as part of your subscription. The paperback will be ready in a few weeks.

Here’s the synopsis:

“It was a quiet Seattle morning until the skies filled with fire: without warning, a catastrophic meteor shower caused buildings to crumble and the lights to go out. Out of the rubble, five ordinary people arose to find themselves manifesting undreamed-of abilities.

Will they be enough to do what the military cannot — stop a massive alien invasion before the entire West Coast is destroyed?”

I started working on this book in mid 2013. I was attending Texas Frightmare (best horror con in the world) with some other Permuted Press authors. Peter Cline’s Ex-Heroes books were taking off big time. I remember chatting with Peter and saying something along the lines of “There are a ton of zombie books. I think you’re really paving the way with superhero books. It’s going to be a huge book genre.” A few days later I had an idea for Impact Earth and started writing it. Continue reading…

Howdy friends. With any luck IMPACT EARTH: SYMBIOSIS will be available by the end of the week. In the meantime, here’s the prologue to whet your appetite. The book will be released for $2.99 for the first few days. After that it will go up by one dollar to $3.99. The book runs about 350 pages and is my longest novel in 3 years. I hope you enjoy this little sample.

International Space Station
10:47 Zulu time

Yuri Novitskiy awoke to pounding.

He tried to roll over, but then he remembered he was stuck in a cocoon that was Velcroed to a wall. Or, as Sheppard liked to call it, being mummified for eight hours. One of the hardest parts about living in zero-g was that it didn’t matter which direction you faced. There was no gravity to tell you which way was up and which way was down.

The familiar machine shop smell of the space station came back to him: a combination of oil, recycled air, and ionization particles. Then there were the constant noises of moving air and machinery humming away as the space station kept its occupants alive. Continue reading…

IMPACT EARTH Sample Chapter

I hope you enjoy this small sample of IMPACT EARTH: SYMBIOSIS which is coming out in February 2016. In this chapter, titled Damage, we meet Victor, one of the main characters caught up in an alien invasion in downtown Seattle. While this has been through a round of edits there may still be a few minor issues. Also, this is an abridged version of the chapter. Impact Earth runs over 350 pages so there will be plenty more to sink your teeth into.

ImpactEarth_finalVictor was already having a bad day thanks to the noisy downstairs neighbors who’d kept him and Laura up half the night. Then the sky opened up and tried to kill him.

Rain pelted the overhang in a steady rhythm that washed away the sounds of cars racing along 1st Avenue. The downfall came so fast and heavy that at times Victor wondered if a marching band had taken up residence above and decided to use the shelter’s roof as practice for a college football game.

He dared not look up, because his rain jacket had seen better days, and if a hint of wind caught his hood, he would likely end up with a face full of water. He wished he could have stayed in bed with Laura and ridden out the storm.

When he’d tried to leave the apartment this morning he’d found himself blocked in.

The jerk on the first floor spent his days smoking weed. In the summer, when the back door had to be open to keep the upstairs apartment cool, the smell wafted up and filled Victor’s living room on an hourly basis. Even though it was improbably early it seemed that the downstairs neighbor’s buddy had showed up, probably to sell him more pot, and in the process had blocked in Victor’s car. Continue reading…

IMPACT EARTH: SYMBIOSIS coming next month

Greetings all. Now that THE FRONT: SCREAMING EAGLES is out in the wild it’s time to deliver a book I’ve been working on for over 3 years. The first in a series IMPACT EARTH: SYMBIOSIS tells the story of five everyday average people who are suddenly granted extraordinary powers in the midst of an apocalyptic alien invasion. The book takes place in Seattle and once again I’m thrilled to virtually destroy parts of the city I’m from.

Eloise J. Knapp has created an amazing cover for the book and I’m happy to post it. So watch for the first book in the series in February 2016. Z-RISEN 5: BARRIERS will follow around April or May of this year. Thank you all for reading!

Christmas Truce at the Battle of the Bulge

The Battle of the Bulge was one of the largest battles of World War II. It is named so because of the way the lines “bulged” as a Germans advanced toward Antwerp.

battle bulge bwThe German offensive had started on December 16th when they launched a massive push through the Ardennes forest. Over two hundred thousand German soldiers were involved including 340+ tanks, and 1,600 artillery pieces. The German attack caught the Allies completely by surprise. Vicious fighting occurred between the two armies until January 25th, 1945. At the time of the battles start the Allies were outnumbered, and outgunned. The 101st Airborne were dispatched to assist and the rest is history.
